Nestled at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, Morocco is a country that boasts a rich tapestry of cultural influences.

   From its French-speaking population to its fusion of Arabic and French roots, Morocco presents a captivating blend of traditions, languages, and cuisines. Moreso, French is widely spoken throughout the country, particularly in urban areas, government institutions, and the tourism industry. This linguistic fusion adds a touch of familiarity for French-speaking visitors, making communication easier and enhancing the cultural exchange between locals and travelers. So, make sure to keep brushing up on your French speaking skills!


  Morocco’s identity is shaped by its diverse heritage. While Arabic is the predominant language and Islam the predominant religion, the country’s historical ties to France and Spain contribute to its unique blend of traditions.

  This cultural fusion can be seen in architectural marvels, the arts, and even in everyday life, creating a fascinating juxtaposition of influences. When walking around, I highly encourage you to pay attention to all the artistic buildings and how their styles were influenced by multiple cultures. You can do this on your way to one of the many bustling souks– the traditional commercial markets. These vibrant marketplaces sell items like handicrafts, textiles, spices, and unique souvenirs. Here, I always make sure to bargain a little!

On to the good stuff: food  & activities!

    Moroccan cuisine is renowned for its rich flavors and exotic spices, combining Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences. From traditional dishes like couscous and tagine to the fragrant aromas of mint tea, Moroccan cuisine is a culinary journey for the senses. The country’s French connection also brings a touch of European influence, with French-inspired pastries and delicacies adding a delectable twist to the local fare. Luckily, I can still get my fresh daily-morning croissant! Yummy!


    If you’re an adventurer like me, I bet your wondering what activities you can do here. Well, how do you feel about surfing? The Agadir coast offers a paradise for surfers, with its pristine beaches and perfect waves attracting water sports enthusiasts from around the world.

    Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or a beginner, the region’s surf schools and surf-friendly beaches provide an exhilarating experience, with the added bonus of stunning coastal scenery. If you’d prefer to stay dry, unlike my fish-like self, there’s something here for you too! Explore the enchanting Sahara by embarking on a desert excursion on the back of a camel- a quintessential Moroccan experience- or if camels aren’t for you, hop on an ATV! Here you can witness the mesmerizing sunset over the dunes, observe a canopy of stars, and embrace the tranquility and vastness of the desert landscape.


    For a hippie heaven, escape to the coastal town of Essaouira, a laid-back haven known for its bohemian vibes and artistic flair. With its picturesque medina, colorful fishing boats, and tranquil beaches, Essaouira attracts artists, musicians, and free spirits from around the world.

    Explore the bustling medina, indulge in fresh seafood, and immerse yourself in the town’s vibrant arts and music scene. This is my kind of place! Additionally, for some jamming, visit during the annual Gnawa Festival here. This celebration of traditional Gnawa music brings together musicians from different cultures; experience the captivating rhythms, dance to the infectious beats, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Moroccan music.
